Our History
Suffolk Iron Works
was founded in 1894 as a machine shop by R.D. Whitehorn of Suffolk, Virginia. Specializing in a wide variety of commercial and industrial services, our team of professionals help our clients with everything from metal fabrication, welding, crane and rigging to machining, mechanical services, and much more. As SIW grew, we purchased the city's first electric welding machine, along with larger metal fabricating machinery. We began a crane service with the acquisition of three hydraulic cranes and the diversification into the engineering, design, sales and installation of large bulk material handling systems, such as hydraulic truck dumpers and the bucket elevators.
